At NeoMetrix Technologies, we love to hear when someone has just purchased their very first 3D printer. It’s like a child opening up an unwrapped gift during the holidays and is such an exciting time. A new world of discovery has just been brought to you. There are many new lessons and skills that you will continue to learn in the weeks ahead.

Here is some great 3D Printer Tips:

* An unleveled build platform will cause many problems during a print. You will want to watch this closely. Simply check the platform by doing the paper test: use a single sheet of paper to check the height of your extruder nozzle over the build platform.

* Clean your platform with rubbing alcohol. Your hands’ oil won’t allow the object you are printing to stick to the platform.

* When printing in ABS plastic, be sure to preheat your build platform to its maximum temperature as preheating will help prevent edge curling.

* For a heated platform, Kapton tape is usually the best for covering the platform because it can take the heating and cooling of the platform better than painter’s tape.

* Are your prints still not sticking or do you have blue painter’s tape covering the building platform? Many people have tried using hairspray and have seen better adhesion.

* While you are printing an object for the first time, try it on the lowest quality setting. You don’t want to find out after hours of printing that the object is too small or large.

Understand the plastic which you are use. The most popular types are ABS and PLA. Each plastic has its own characteristics, including melting temperature and extruding speed.  Be sure your printer is right for the plastic you are using.

At NeoMetrix Technologies, we welcome the opportunity to help you answer any questions you may have and assist you in purchasing the right 3D printer.
